What are the advantages of fishless cycling?

  • Fish aren’t stressed, physically injured and/or killed by toxic levels of ammonia or nitrite.
  • You won’t have to find a home for those “hardy” fish that you used to cycle the tank but which you don’t want to keep.
  • Pure ammonia is cheaper than treating sick fish or replacing dead ones.
  • Fishless cycling is usually faster than conventional cycling with fish, that is, 2-3 weeks vs. 3-5 weeks.
  • You can add larger amounts of fish than you could have initially cycled the tank with. The full stocking load of a tank can be added at the end of fishless cycling.
  • This is an easy fishless way to keep a quarantine/hospital tank maintained and ready for use.
